After more than two decades of service in municipal leadership for the Town of Grimshaw, Brian Allen has announced his resignation as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Brian has accepted the CAO position with the Municipal District of Peace No. 135, effective July 14, 2025.

“It’s very hard to leave this position, but I’m so grateful for my time with the Town of Grimshaw and am thankful to Council, staff and residents for their support,” said Allen.

“Serving the Town has been a big part of my life, and I’m proud of the many projects we’ve accomplished together. It’s been an honour working with such incredible staff who care deeply and work hard every day to provide excellent service to our residents and the surrounding community.”

Allen began with the Town of Grimshaw in 1998 when first elected to Town Council. In 1999 he served as deputy mayor and then as mayor from 2000 to 2013 before stepping into the CAO role.

“With 25 years of service to the Town of Grimshaw in various leadership positions, Brian led and was involved in several notable and significant events and initiatives with long-term positive impact for our community and region,” said Grimshaw Mayor Wendy Wald.

Throughout his time as CAO, Allen supported major infrastructure upgrades, helped bring new amenities to the community and cultivated regional relationships

for the betterment of the Town of Grimshaw.

Allen also achieved his Certified Local Government Manager (CLGM) designation and served for nine years on the Northern Alberta Development Council, advocating for economic development in northern Alberta.

“Brian’s dedication, service and commitment to the Town have been deeply valued,” said Mayor Wald. “His knowledge, leadership and presence will be missed, and we wish him every success in his new role with the MD and know he will continue to make a meaningful impact. He leaves a legacy in Grimshaw that will benefit residents and visitors for years to come.”

In the interim, the Town has appointed Belinda Russell as acting CAO effective July 12.

“Council is confident in Belinda’s ability to support the organization through this transitional period,” said Mayor Wald. “She is a dedicated employee who brings strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of municipal operations and a sincere commitment to serving our community.”

The Town of Grimshaw is currently undertaking a formal recruitment process to fill the permanent CAO position.
