Disconnect and Unwind in Serenity

In the soft light of the sky filtering through the aspens, 15 minutes from Worsley, you’ll find a wedge style home designed and created by Juan Wiebe and his wife Trudy. And, it all came to be after an unfortunate roll of an ankle led to a twist of fate for Juan.

After an accident left Juan immobilized for a few months, he began to envision the dream that is now Serenity Haven—an experience far from your average retreat. It’s a bed and breakfast that will leave you feeling relaxed down to your toes.

Juan discovered his passion for design, and after he recovered from his accident, he got to work clearing land to create this beautiful retreat with the help of his four young daughters.

With her innate talent for interior decorating, Trudy designed a breathtaking interior, and Serenity Haven was ready for its first guests.

“The first booking was nerve wracking, but the couple was just so sweet that the nerves dissolved,” said Juan. “I believe if you respect others and treat them well, you get that in return. This has been a big joy for us.”

Operating as an Airbnb for almost a year now, the couple and their children have greeted guests from near and far, and their near-perfect reviews speak for themselves.

The only somewhat negative comment to date was, “[there is] no WiFi, which made work difficult.” However, the lack of WiFi makes Serenity Haven the tranquil retreat it is, and it’s not something the Wiebe’s plan to ever change.

Every detail is thoughtfully curated. Although the home is small, the size of the windows and the perfectly designed functionality give the space a sense of pure luxury amidst its natural forest surroundings.

With the 360-degree light pouring in, and the warm neutral tones of the atmosphere, it feels like a high-end metropolitan hotel married a camping cabin. It truly combines the best of both worlds.

“The word serenity means calm, relaxed and untroubled,” said Juan. “You hear the sound of birds, the chatter of squirrels. Inside, guests find a warm and cozy place where they instantly feel at home.”

Luxury linens, high-end furnishings and an on-demand hot water shower that could melt the stress in anyone’s shoulders is topped only by the hospitality that pours out from the hearts of the Wiebe family. Every guest is personally welcomed by a platter of home-baked delicious pastries, sweets and breakfast items.

“It doesn’t matter what culture or background people come from, everyone wants peace and to be respected,” said Wiebe. “We all have that desire for peace in common, and sometimes people need to disconnect for a bit and enjoy nature to rediscover their peace.”

The couple hopes to bring peace and serenity to travellers for many years to come. Future plans for the property include more small rentals with unique architecture and design, delivered with hospitality and relaxation at the core.
