Cabin in the Woods | La Crete, AB
Just a 10-minutes drive from La Crete, in rural Mackenzie County, you will find Cabin in the Woods, a quaint and cozy bed and breakfast with a twist. Guests can choose from three lovely accommodations options, each are charming and unique.
Hosts Lena and John Wiebe have been proudly welcoming guests from all over for a decade.
“We started with a log cabin, and after two years I got more guests than expected, so we added the tiny house,” said Lena. “Then, three years ago my husband had the idea of converting a round grain bin, which we call the silo.”
While all accommodations are on the same property, each offer privacy, their own deck, outdoor furniture, a barbeque and a fire pit.
The log cabin has a traditional cabin vibe, while the tiny house is more of a ‘50s style cottage. And, the silo gives a modern farmhouse feel.
All three options start at $145 per night. Upon request, Lena provides a continental breakfast, which always features some of her homemade goodies.
“We ensure there’s firewood, so guests can have fires both outdoors and indoors,” said Lena.
Lena prefers to “keep it old school” and takes her bookings over the phone. This allows her to connect and learn about each guest and their preferences.
“I have many return guests,” said Lena. “One of my guests even told me they don’t want to come through the area unless they can stay at one of my cabins.”
At check in, guests are given a brochure of things to do in the area, and Lena will give her own recommendations, but often guests simply want to relax, enjoy the space and take a break from the modern world.
“I try to find out what their interests are. There are so many nature trails, sightseeing activities and unique small businesses to visit in the area,” said Lena. “In the winter there is skiing too.”
One place Lena likes to recommend is the La Crete Heritage Museum, where guests can book a guide and learn all about the community’s history and culture.
“The time of their stay will dictate what activities are available,” said Lena. “On certain days, we have a local market happening that I love to recommend.”
When the stay is over, it’s an easy self-checkout, but Lena makes herself available to say “safe travels” and to ensure they enjoyed their stay.

“My stay at Lena’s cabin was quiet and relaxing, exactly what I came for! The cabin itself was super cute, with lots of vintage touches throughout. Lena greeted me with homemade banana bread, fresh raspberries, and Saskatoon crumble—delicious! Was a perfect mini getaway.”
Lena says her guests often say, “it feels like stepping back in time” and “this is a great place to unwind.”
“Don’t worry though, you will still have access to Wi-Fi,” said Lena.
