Hotchkiss Guitar Camp gets ready to riff for the 29th time

Established in 1994, The Hotchkiss Guitar Camp offers a week-long immersive experience in music education, attracting participants from 8 to 88 years young.
Although it is called guitar camp, Organizer Leslie Snyder explains it is so much more.
“Musically, we offer a wide variety of lessons including guitar, ukulele, fiddle, mandolin, percussion, harmonica, bass, slide and rock guitar, vocal harmony and more,” said Snyder.

“On a social-emotional level, we promote community cohesion and provide opportunities for personal growth and friendship through musical exploration.”
Snyder says it is 50 percent about making great music and 50 percent about helping make great people.
Planning and coordination for the next Guitar Camp is ongoing throughout each year. The instructor team and community of volunteers and partners make it possible.
“The grounds are transformed into a week-long haven that holds space for the alternate reality that is “Guitar Camp,” said Snyder. “The Hotchkiss Community Club and several generous corporate sponsors help make our ‘mini village’ a reality.”
Guitar Camp’s “mini village” consists of worksite trailers, generators, sewer tanks, light towers, tents, RV camping and firewood. The hall is setup and so is a diverse, curated curriculum that caters to different musical interests and proficiency levels.

“Our staff and volunteers keep the moving parts in sync, including food, band-aids and lost music books. We’ve developed the Junior Leader program, so students can be role models who lead games and assist with small groups during lessons,” said Snyder.
Organizers encourage campers to enjoy a night on the town in Manning. The Aurora Theatre, Manning Swimming Pool and countless favourite dining spots add up to a memorable evening with a hot shower and a night of relaxing.

Though the camp is already sold out this year, everyone is invited to Friday Night’s Finale show at the at the Hotchkiss Hall on July 11 at 7pm. This year, the theme is “The Beatles,” so look forward to hearing some of their iconic music.
“It’s a free evening of stellar music and groovy costumes. You won’t have to ‘... imagine all the people living life in peace,’ because you’ll get to see it for yourself!”
