As a serial entrepreneur, Jordan Hall, 30, knows a thing or two about business. Jordan and his fiancé Bobbie opened Peace River’s latest restaurant, Ricky’s All Day Grill in the Quality Hotel and Conference Centre Sawridge this July.
Ricky’s is a popular family-style restaurant chain with 85+ locations across Canada. They are well-known for their breakfast menu, but they also serve comfort food favourites and hearty dishes for lunch and dinner.
In addition to a friendly and comfortable dining experience, Ricky’s diners can also order online for delivery or take out.
Where are you from?
I was born in Edmonton and raised in the Peace Country. I lived in Peace River for several years when I was a car salesman. I currently live in Brownvale, and I plan on moving back to Peace River soon.
How did you get your start in business?
I started my first business when I was 20. It was an oilfield light tower rental business. I’m also currently self-employed as the owner of Tomahawk Locating Services Ltd.
What inspired you to open Ricky’s All Day Grill? What was your vision?
I have a business mindset, and I’m always looking for a good opportunity. I also largely enjoy breakfast and lunch. I believe Ricky’s has one of the better menus out there. My vision is to have a successful business that services the lovely people of Peace River and to raise a family here.
What would you say makes Ricky’s unique in the region?
Ricky’s All Day Grill focuses heavily on the quality of food and ingredients on its menu. The focus is on fresh rather than frozen goods. The franchise is Canadian-owned and utilizes local products and services.
Additionally, Ricky’s has the best hand-battered chicken tenders of any restaurant I’ve ever tried.
What dining experience are you trying to create? What is your approach to customer service?
We want people to have a positive, friendly and hospitable experience when they come to our restaurant. We plan on being here for many years, and I want Ricky’s to be a well known, well liked and respected restaurant in the community. We can’t do that without ensuring the best customer experience that we could possibly offer.
Tell us about the care and attention you take when selecting your ingredients and recipes?
The Ricky’s corporate team and experienced master chefs carefully select the best possible ingredients to create delicious meals. They focus on a very meat-and-potatoes style of food that is wholesome, filling and delicious.
What are some of Ricky’s must-try dishes?
Ricky’s hands down has the best chicken tenders there are. The beer-battered cod is also to die for. Other meals that stand out are the lasagna, which takes hours to prepare, the 7-cheese grilled cheese, the signature Brekkie-Bowls, and the unique chaffle, which is an egg and cheese waffle.
From a business perspective, what have you found works best and what doesn’t?
In business, I sometimes find it difficult to continue to stay motivated through the difficult times. There are lots of ups and downs in business, and it can be hard on your happiness, mental health and family life.
It’s important to know why you are doing what you are doing, and to know what motivates you to keep going. It’s okay to struggle and feel like giving up, it’s okay to mess up and fail at what you’re doing, but it’s not okay to give up. Always strive to learn from your failures and keep moving toward your goals.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
We are excited to be bringing a Ricky’s to the Peace River community and welcoming residents with a hearty breakfast, lunch or dinner served up with a smile.
