Sagitawa Friendship Society Receives Grant to Provide Transportation Services

In January 2024, the Sagitawa Friendship Society received a grant from the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services to provide regional transportation to individuals who are released from the Peace River Correctional Centre (PRCC).

Over the past year, Sagitawa and the PRCC have worked closely to find a solution for individuals being released in Peace River with no way of getting back to their home communities.

Securing grant funding ensures that released individuals have access to transportation.

“Alberta’s government is proud to support the Sagitawa Friendship Society in delivering this local solution,” said Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services.

“Sagitawa’s mobile outreach program will play a key role in returning individuals released from the Peace River Correctional Centre to their home communities, helping to ensure both their safety and that of the public.”

Sagitawa looks forward to building on its existing partnership with the PRCC and is excited to continue to work together for the betterment of the community.
