Fort Vermilion School Division Superintendent Mike McMann was recognized with two prestigious awards in March.

For “outstanding leadership in advancing school success,” McMann was awarded the EXL Award for Excellence in School System Leadership on March 20 at a presentation in Edmonton. This award is jointly sponsored by the College of Alberta School Superintendents and the Canadian Association of School System Administrators (CASSA).

As Alberta’s recipient, he will also be nominated for the national Nelson Excellence in Leadership Award for Canadian Superintendent of the Year, which will be announced at the CASSA Summer Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Later on in the month, McMann was also a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal. Presented on March 27, the medal is granted to individuals who exemplify excellence in leadership, dedication and community impact.

Superintendent McMann accepted the medal at a ceremony in Edmonton. He was selected due to “his unwavering commitment to student success, innovative programs and fostering a positive learning environment.”

“This recognition is truly an honour for the best educational team in this province,” said McMann. “Acknowledging that this accomplishment is a team effort, I accepted this medal on behalf of every person in FVSD who dedicates their life to the children of our district.”
