Building in the North requires more than skill—it demands resilience and a deep understanding of the land. That’s exactly what Diamond B Builders delivers.

Founded by Michael Miller and Wendall Brubaker, the Bay Tree/Bonanza-based company handles everything from custom homes to timber framing and renovations.

“We started working together back in 2012,” said Miller. “Wendall came up from the United States, and we built a house together that summer. We just clicked.”

That first house laid the foundation for a steadily growing partnership. At first, the duo balanced seasonal work—building homes in the summer and plowing snow in the winter—until demand pushed them to take Diamond B Builders full-time in 2017.

“It’s been busy ever since,” said Miller.

Serving Northern Alberta and beyond, Diamond B Builders has grown into a trusted team of professionals with a focus on craftsmanship, reliability and customer satisfaction—fueled by reputation and relationships rather than shortcuts.

Perhaps their most distinctive niche is their authentic timber framing. Using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery—a method where wooden beams are carefully fitted together without modern fasteners—the finished product is very strong and offers a clean, seamless look.

“That kind of timber framing can be structural or architectural,” said Miller. “It’s real beam work, where everything is dialed together and becomes part of building itself.”

Beyond homes, Diamond B Builders also builds shops, which are essential structures in Northern Alberta. With multiple crews specializing in different aspects of construction and a dedicated shop crew, they offer a wide range of services and maintain high standards.

Acting as the prime contractor, Diamond B Builders and its team manage projects.

Depending on the scope of the job, they may be coordinating with trusted architects, designers and other tradespeople across the Peace Region.

“We try to be your first call and hopefully your only call,” said Miller. “We work with a lot of very talented people to take a project from planning all the way to completion.”

This philosophy extends to how projects are run. According to Miller, clients can expect clear communication, efficient timelines and uncompromising quality.

“We focus on delivering a quality product in a timely manner,” said Miller. “We won’t sacrifice quality just to move faster or make a little more money. We want to do it right so it lasts, and so you can enjoy a beautiful build for years.”

Miller says one standout project was a custom home they did on Moberly Lake in Northern BC, where the setting and design came together seamlessly.

“It’s still one of our favourite builds,” said Miller. “The aesthetics, the way the colours worked together, the style—it’s right on the lake, and the whole project came together beautifully.”

Another meaningful project was much closer to home. It was the Diamond B Builders shop itself. Built as both a functional workshop and a showcase, it represents the craftsmanship the company brings to every job.

“It’s almost like a show home,” said Miller. “We were able to build in features we’ve always wanted and really show what we can do.”

Diamond B Builders is powered by a young and highly capable team. With an average age under 25, the crew brings fresh energy, modern techniques and a deep level of care to every build.

“We’ve been blessed with an incredible group of guys,” said Miller. “They’re young, but extremely knowledgeable, and they care deeply about the work.”

That care, Miller says, is what makes the difference.

“They treat every build like it’s their own,” said Miller. “They take pride in their work. The attention to detail really shows.”

Looking ahead, Miller says the short-term goal for the company is to streamline internal systems to ensure projects run smoothly. Their big-picture goal is simple but powerful.

“We want to build a brand that’s recognized and trusted in the community—known for quality and attention to even the smallest details,” said Miller.

As Diamond B Builders moves forward, they remain committed to the community, to craftsmanship and to helping clients turn their ideas into reality.

“We’re excited to grow with our community,” said Miller. “We look forward to seeing people’s visions and helping bring their dreams to life.”
