The Fix Family Celebrates 50 Years in Business! Adventure Chevrolet | Fairview, AB

"Half a century in business doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built on relationships,” said Owner Donald Fix.
This year marks 50 years in business for Adventure Chevrolet in Fairview, a milestone reflecting decades of resilience, adaptation and strong ties to the Peace Region.
The story begins in 1975 when Donald’s father, Don Fix Sr., purchases the Pontiac Buick GMC dealership from Jim Fox Sr. and Spud Steinke.
“At that time, it was called J & S Service,” said Donald. “In 1976, the dealership became Adventure Automotive, and dad became the dealer principal.”
That same year, Donald Sr. brought his brother Alyn to Fairview to partner in the dealership—a role Alyn held until selling his shares in 2019.
The journey hasn’t been without challenges.
“In November of 1989, we had a fire, and the dealership was totally destroyed,” said Donald.
Despite the loss, the business did not fold.
“This is when I started full time at the dealership, after the fire. I started in the parts department, earned my journeyman status and worked across service and sales before transitioning to management.”
Operating out of various temporary locations for a year after the fire, the team remained dedicated to their customers and maintained a strong presence in the community during their toughest era.
Rather than rebuilding, the Fix family purchased an existing building in Fairview that previously housed the John Deere dealership.
“We moved into our current location in January of 1991,” said Donald.
Located alongside Highway 2, the business continues to grow with its community.

In 2012, the dealership underwent a full renovation to align with General Motors’ modern image program, proudly updating the storefront, showroom, and the parts and service departments.
“In 2023, I became the dealer principal, and we changed our name to Adventure Chevrolet Buick GMC,” said Donald.
Staying current, they added electric vehicle chargers and equipment in 2024.
“The biggest change in 50 years has been the technology in vehicles,” said Donald.
While technology changes, the value of a meaningful handshake doesn't.
“One of the biggest factors to being around for five decades is building long-lasting relationships with our clients.”
Adventure Chevrolet’s commitment extends far beyond the dealership walls, supporting the Peace Region through sponsorships, volunteer hours and in-kind donations.
“We’ve always believed in giving back to the community that supports us,” said Donald.
With 50 years of legacy in the rear-view mirror, the route ahead is clear—business as usual, doing what has worked for decades while adapting to whatever comes next.
“We’re hopeful we can continue for many more years to come,” said Donald. “We will continue to provide the same top-notch service that we started with 50 years ago.”
With deep community roots and a reputation built on trust, Adventure Chevrolet thanks everyone who has been part of their journey.
