Kunegonda Kukli is originally from Serbia. She works as a pharmacy assistant at the High Level IDA.
What’s your origin story? How did you get into making what you make?
My mom used to make macramé items when I was a child. She made beautiful wall hangings and plant hangers. I was fascinated by her work. In the last few years I was searching for something new to do—something that would fulfill me. Then I remembered my mother’s macramé. I started making plant hangers, but I soon realized there are lots of beautiful things that I could make. My co-workers suggested to try selling them. So that’s how it all started.
Please describe a few of your products and how they’re made.
I make lots of different macramé items like plant hangers, wall hangers, earrings, dreamcatchers, key chains and bags. I use different materials like natural fiber cords, driftwood and metal rings. Sometimes I dye the cords myself.
The most popular items are the dreamcatchers. I make them in many different colours, shapes and sizes. Sometimes I combine different materials while making them. The price ranges between $25-$40. Another popular product is the macramé feather wall hanging. The price ranges between $40-$80 depending on the size and number of leaves.
Tell us about the care and attention you put into your work.
It takes lot of care and time to make these products. Usually this is my relaxing time after a hard day’s work.
Are there specific items you could suggest as good Christmas gift ideas?
There are many products that one can choose from. From tapestries to earrings, there’s something for every taste.
Is there anything you’d like to add?
I just have to say that creating something from scratch with your own hands and turning it in to something beautiful makes you feel truly amazing. It is fulfilling, and I would recommend it to everyone.
I’ll be attending the monthly Craft and Bake Sale in High Level. Customers can find my products on my Facebook page.
